Henna Hair Dye Instructions

First you need to order your henna from the Worlds End Natural Products website. Then have a good read through the instructions to get an idea of what items you will need before you start.

  1. A patch test is always advised if you are using a new henna colour.
  2. Empty the henna powder into an old jam jar or mixing bowl. If you have long hair use a whole packet, for short hair you can use just half if you would prefer. You can also mix 2 different henna colours to get a customised shade.
  3. Add hot, but not boiling, water a little at a time to the powder and mix thoroughly until it becomes a thick paste. Stir the mixture well making sure there are no lumps of powder left. You want a consistency that is thick enough to lift with your hands without running through immediately, but thin enough to be able to spread easily through your hair.
  4. Leave the mixture to cool until it is comfortable to the touch (remember this will be going on your head). But you should not let it go cold. Whilst you’re waiting for the mixture to cool slightly you can smear some Vaseline around your hairline to protect your skin from staining. The henna will not dye places where you have used Vaseline so be careful not to get it in your hair.
  5. Smear the henna mixture over dry hair using your hands to spread the mixture thoroughly through every strand.
  6. Once your hair is completely covered wrap in cling film, much like the style of a turban, and then cover in a hot towel.
  7. Leave the henna to develop for as long as you can. The minimum you should allow is 30 minutes although we suggest 3-4 hours. The longer you leave it on the longer the colour will last. Many of our regular customers leave their henna on overnight for a brilliant colour in the morning.
  8. When you are ready to reveal your brand new colour simply wash and dry your hair as normal.
  9. Your new colour will last between 2 and 6 weeks and will fade gradually.

Top Henna Tips For Perfect Hair Every Time

  • For a richer, longer lasting colour try using black tea or coffee instead of hot water
  • You can use lemon juice in the mix to help lighten darker hair.

  • Wait 6 weeks before using henna if your hair is already dyed with regular chemical dye.
  • Henna has no problem covering grey on most people but this is not guaranteed.
